TITLE            Improving reading skill for Matthayomsuksa 4 by using
metacognitive strategies

Abstract        

              This study aimed to (1) study the efficiency of the activities for developing Matthayom 4 students’ English reading ability by using methacognitive strategies accords with the 70/70 criterion (2) examine the effectiveness index of the activities for developing Matthayom 4 students’ English reading ability by using methacognitive strategies (3) compare the pre-listening and post-listening skill of the activities for developing Matthayom  students’ English reading ability by using methacognitive strategies in the second semester, academic year 2011 at Yangtaladwittayakan school, Yangtalad district, Kalasin province. The sample consisted of 28 Matthayomsuksa 4 students who studied at Yangtaladwittayakan school, Yangtalad district, Kalasin provinceThe instrument used in the experiment and data collection concluded four units of methacognitive strategies to develop reading skill, English reading comprehension pre-test and post-test. The data were statistically analyzed by mean scores, percentage, and standard deviation and t-test.
  The results of the studying revealed that using methacognitive strategies to develop reading skill effectively at 56.96/60.24, which is lower than the criterion. And the effectiveness index was equal to 0.33, indicated that the students were able to improve their learning at 33%.  The post-test scores of the students were significantly higher than pre-test scores of the students at the .05 level.ฟังอ่านออกเสี พจนานุกรม ดูพจนานุกรมโดยละเอียอ่านออกเสียง 
               In conclusion, the activities for developing English reading skill by using methacognitive strategies helped students improve their English reading ability. In activity by using methacognitive strategies enables students to focus on learning content, good attitude towards learning English and also paid enthusiastic to participate in activities.    Thai Version
